2016 Australia/FEMCA dual crown Australian National Titles, England Park Raceway, Brendale, Queensland, Australia.

The England Park Raceway RC circuit recently played host to the 2016 Australian/FEMCA dual crown Australian National Titles in hot and sunny Queensland, Australia.
Representing Orcan engines in one of the most competitive and hotly contested championships that Australia has seen in a long time, were Australian drivers Ricky and Dan Kradolfer, Andrew Gillespie and Factory Mugen Seiki driver Jeff Hamon. Having recently returned from competing at the highest level at the 2016 200mm Touring Car Worlds Championships in Gubbio, Italy, the boys were on the pace from the first day of open practice, with Jeff Hamon qualifying in 2nd and bumping up directly into the A-main final. It was up to Andrew, Ricky and Dan to prove their class and composure, and work their way through the lower finals.

Starting from position one in the first Semi final, Andrew Gillespie commanded the race front the front, while Dan Kradolfer firmly held down the number 2 spot. Displaying convincing pace, both Andrew and Dan held their Orcan powered 1-2 positions to bump up into the A main final.
It was left to Ricky Kradolfer in the other semi final to make it 4 x Orcans in a field of 10 cars in the A Main, and that he did. Starting from the number two spot in the semi final, Ricky soon took the lead early on in the 20 min race and drove an incredibly precise and composed race, to win the semi final and bump up to the A Main final, where he would start from 6th on the grid.

In a hotly contested A Main, which included some of the best drivers in Australia, including infinity factory driver and recent top 10 finalist at the recent ENS race in Fiorano, Jesse Davis and Capricorn factory Driver, Steven Jovanovic, the boys with their Orcan powered Mugen’s showed fantastic pace, with Jeff Hamon, hunting down Jesse Davis, while Andrew Gillespie continued to close in on the number 3 spot. With a mixture of bad luck and unlucky negotiation through backmarker traffic, the boys wouldn’t be able to catch the front running factory drivers, but displayed incredible pace throughout the 45 min final and the entire weekend, with Jeff Hamon finishing 2nd, (but later being disqualified for extra body post holes, that had only been picked up by scrutineers following the A Main final) while Andrew finished 4th, followed closely by Dan in the number 5 spot, while Ricky wasn’t able to make up the laps he lost changing a chucked tire, finishing in 9th.

In a hugely competitive Championship, the Australian Orcan boys displayed fantastic consistency and speed the entire weekend, and the top 10 placings of all Orcan engines present at the event, is a testament to the very fast, world champion race engine.
